Christmas Online Shopping Sales to Soar

MONDAY 30TH NOVEMBER 2009: Despite the recession, online retailer predict sales will rise 20% year on year, as more people than ever go online to bag Christmas bargain.

On Monday 7th December, the company is expecting to process an average of 1100 orders per minute, at peak trading hours, compared to 1000 at the same time in 2008. The entertainment and leisure online retailer is also expecting to ship over 550,000 today, representing 340 tonnes of goods that will include toys, books, DVDS, CDs, electronics and video games.

Research reveals consumers have been planning their Christmas shopping more than ever to cope with the current economic climate. 46% saved throughout the year to manage the cost of Christmas and 54% of those asked, save up to £30 every month. 77% admit they’ve been shopping online more this year with 76% spending more time, bargain hunting for good deals.
